A pleasant little provincial gem for this jaded Londoner, and the restaurant attached to it is great. I wouldn't have minded a few more meat or fish mains, though. Nothing else to fault, and calling it a two star place probably does it a disservice.

This is a historically layered building attached to Brown's Gatehouse, though I'm not sure whether one of the rooms is actually in the gatehouse. It overlooks the cathedral, and the rooms are above an Italian restaurant. They're pleasant, but have an Inn or B&B feel, with every creaky footstep audible, especially from the first floor. Ear plugs would help. You can hear the restaurant until around 11pm, and you have to weave around waiters when coming and going. Some hotels with restaurants offer guests a free drink or a 5-10% discount, so a little extra like that might be a nice touch here.

Helpful staff, a lovely place to stay and a great location. It was chilly at first because the room was cold when we arrived, and the heating didn't come on until just before eight in the morning.

The four poster bed was impressive, and the rooms were comfortable. Really friendly staff and a really nice breakfast.
