The hotel's public areas are beautiful, relaxing and welcoming, and the lounge bar prices were reasonable, so we enjoyed having a few drinks there. The afternoon tea looked popular and well received. Staff were lovely and helpful without being intrusive. The twin standard room was spacious and spotless, with a hairdryer, ironing and drink-making facilities, a fridge for cold drinks, and a great shower with toiletries supplied. We stayed in late March 26 for a mother and daughter weekend. The hotel is beautifully grand after its £27m refurbishment in recent times. The only small downside was the hot buffet breakfast. My daughter left her bacon, and the usual buffet issue was that the food was warm rather than freshly cooked and hot. That didn't bother me, as I usually have continental breakfast, and there was plenty of choice. It's perfectly located for town and the train station, and well-behaved dogs are welcome. We'd definitely return.

For our anniversary weekend, this was a super hotel. All the staff gave us a lovely welcome, and special thanks to Janet, head of housekeeping, for arranging complimentary anniversary bubbly. It's right beside the train station, and you can get into the rear of the hotel without even going out onto the street. York city centre is about a two-minute walk away. There's plenty of parking on site, discounted a little for hotel guests. It still costs a lot, though it's cheaper than nearby car parks for 24 hours. Dogs can stay in any room, but there's an extra £30 per night for them. Breakfast was very good, the gym was good and the pool was nice. The front-facing rooms and the Garden room have great views of the Minster.

The suite was just the right mix of comfort and style, and the view of the Minister made the stay feel extra special. We had drinks in the bar, where Adbur was really friendly. Carolynn greeted us and was amazing and warm throughout our two nights at The Milner. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting York.

The main hotel is beautiful and in a great location, with lovely reception rooms. Our accessible room on the lower ground had a really good accessible bathroom, but staying there felt like being in a different hotel. It was tired and definitely needed decorating, with stains on the chairs and carpet and an ironing board propped against the wardrobe. We'd been to the theatre and came back late. The entrance instructions said to ring for the concierge, so we waited about five minutes in minus 3-degree weather. He pointed out that we could use our key card to get in. Maybe that was obvious to others, but it wasn't to us while we were freezing in the dark.

The staff make you feel welcome, and nothing seems too much. We've stayed in a suite before, and it was stunning. This time we were in the sidlings rooms, which were adequate for what we needed. The breakfast restaurant was okay, also adequate. We had an issue at dinner, but it was sorted straight away. We had to rearrange because of medical issues, and the man my husband spoke with on the phone was extremely kind and helpful. We'll definitely come back every time we're in York.
