I’ve stayed mostly at Hilton properties while traveling, but a lot of Hampton Inns and other Hiltons have started to feel dated. This was my first Tru, and it felt different as soon as I walked in. The lobby is fresh, modern, and warm, with plenty of workstations, a good snack selection, and free hot coffee, tea, and filtered water. There’s also a pool table and a range of magazines beyond the usual local activity guides, which made it easy to relax after a long day. Outside, a cozy fire pit warms the smokers and makes the entrance welcoming. The rooms are bright and cheerful, with smart storage, a comfortable bed, and plenty of outlets at the workspace. One small thing: it’s a new property, so they still only have USB-A ports. Breakfast was perfectly decent and helps keep costs down, with fresh fruit to take on the road. Tru feels like a refreshing update to many older Hilton brands. If Hilton keeps modernizing the rest, it’ll be easier to stay loyal, because I was starting to think about switching to Marriott.

We came here hoping to save the rest of our anniversary trip after a HORRIBLE Airbnb experience, and Christina and Janet made it memorable. Christina, the sweetest front desk clerk, took great care of us from check-in through check-out. The love and hospitality they showed us really shine through, and make you want to return. We’ll definitely be back. We did have a problem with another staff member, but Janet handled it. Breakfast was great, and that pancake machine was so cool. We’d never seen one before. A million thanks to Christina and Janet!

We’ve stayed here overnight twice and found the rooms and bathrooms absolutely clean. Breakfast was good, too. It’s dog-friendly, though they charge a separate pet fee. The front-facing rooms have a pleasant view of the beautiful hill across Tunnel Road. It’s a good base for hikers, bikers, and other adventure lovers exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway. The entrance to MP 393 from Tunnel Road is only a few minutes away. On the evening of 10/20, Emily and another receptionist whose name I’ve forgotten were both courteous and helpful, making a lot of effort to get us checked in despite internet problems after the AWS outage.

The room was small but clean and adequate, and the bathroom was clean and up to date. The main room was busy but still quiet and friendly, with pool, TV, reading, snacks for sale, free coffee, tea, and cocoa. The common area was comfortable and clean, with an outdoor fire pit as well. We stayed one night while visiting swananoa and got a sincere, delightful welcome. Breakfast was clean and had several choices, but the quality could be better. It checked the box on a very budget-conscious basis, and the difference was especially noticeable beside the rest of the hotel. Kudos to the staff!

Samantha at reception was awesome, patient, and helpful. We enjoyed our weekend stay. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, especially the beds, and the bathrooms and showers were spacious and very clean. The included breakfast was quite good, though it got crowded and we had to wait to make pancakes. We’d definitely come back.
