The Whitley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Atlanta Buckhead

The chicken wings and their sauce were the highlight of my visit to The Whitley. I had them with a cocktail, and the sauce was amazing. The bar and restaurant feel like a polished, upscale spot in Buckhead, and the atmosphere works for reading or studying quietly, taking a break alone, or visiting with a partner or the whole family. The surroundings were pristine, the service was seamless, and everything felt extraordinary. For a luxury hotel dining experience in Atlanta, this was a real treat.

We had a relaxing two-night staycation at The Whitley Hotel Atlanta. The room was clean, cozy, and spacious, with a well-stocked minibar and fridge. A welcome letter and complimentary bottle of wine were waiting for us, which was a nice personal touch. The hotel is elegant and beautifully decorated, and felt welcoming as soon as we walked in. We had delicious breakfast at the restaurant both mornings and enjoyed excellent service at the bar over drinks. Every staff member we dealt with was helpful and professional. The location made it easy to get around without a car, with Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza, and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Valet was smooth and easy, though self-parking is also available. A great upscale choice for a relaxing Atlanta staycation, and a good way to make the most of Amex Platinum perks.

I spent 8 days there. The rooms and location were perfect. I only just discovered the bar, which has very limited food options and is quite expensive compared with the restaurants within walking distance. The lounge on the 18th floor is great, but it closes at 10:30am on Friday, is shut on Saturday, and is closed for most of Sunday. That’s a shame.

The rooms and hotel itself are nice, and the location is solid. The place still feels like a luxury hotel from its time as a Ritz-Carlton, but some of the service didn’t fit that standard. The valet staff didn’t open the door or help with bags, which I’ve never experienced at a 5-star hotel. It’s okay, I didn’t want to tip anyway. Their service makes me long for a future with robots. We also found a billing discrepancy and called the front desk. They transferred us to someone, unclear who, maybe accounting, without saying who they were sending us to, then the call was disconnected. After I got the manager on the phone and explained the issue, understandably upset after being hung up on, I was spoken down to with a snide, sarcastic “Well, Happy New Year, to you, too.” I would have preferred, “I’m sorry this has happened. How can I make this right?” I’ve stayed at Walford Astorias, Ritz Carltons, and Mandarin Orientals and never dealt with this kind of nonsense. The on duty manager on 1.3.26 at 1:50 pm and the valet staff need a better understanding of luxury service. We’ll stay at the Waldorf-Astoria when we’re in Atlanta again next week. We considered The Whitley even after the valet issue, but now we won’t. Maybe someone from corporate will reply to my forthcoming email with more tact and professionalism, and the kind of apology and offer to fix things that luxury service should include.
