The price is great for the area, especially if you're staying for a while. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though a little outdated. Most of the staff are kind and helpful. Gina does an outstanding job managing the location, and Maria is very helpful and understanding.

The safety and accessibility problems here are serious. The elevator has been out for so long that staff seem to treat it like decoration. There's no signage, and no one tells guests at check-in, leaving elderly and disabled people to discover it while carrying their bags up the stairs. The side exit by the dumpster doesn't lock. Keyed entry points also don't work with a valid keycard. An emergency exit shouldn't be an open way for anyone to enter. As a woman traveling with a partner, I found this reckless. Basic services aren't as advertised either: no breakfast, not even coffee, WiFi that keeps dropping, and the supposedly 24-hour front desk disappears, with the lobby phone ringing unanswered. In a stairwell, a large, aggressive man claiming to be “VP” confronted and interrogated us. He had no name tag or uniform, and his stance and tone were intimidating, especially given his size compared with ours. MainStay Suites Auburn Hills feels abandoned by management and ignored by corporate. It seems held together with lies and wishful thinking. This feels like mismanagement, neglect, and disregard for guest safety, and it makes me question how Choice Hotels upholds its brand standards. If safety, honesty, accessibility, or basic decency matter to you, stay somewhere else.

I'm in my third week in a row staying here, and I'm impressed by the quality of the room for the price. The bed, kitchen, and TV are all good. At $48/night, you simply can't beat it. I'm not sure whether all the terrible reviews are true or whether people are just trying to get a refund or discount. Maybe I got lucky and landed a room in very good shape. For me, it's a solid 4/5 stars.

I’ve had a good experience here every time, with no problems. Their rates are the best I’ve found in Detroit, and I’d definitely recommend this place for a long stay.
