Bangor Aviator Hotel, BW Premier Collection

The bartender was swamped, but the woman handled it beautifully, and our burgers were excellent. The front desk people were very welcoming, and the location works well for late arrivals or early flights. Still, we had two requests for callbacks about other issues and never heard from anyone, possibly a manager. On our first arrival, we opened a door onto a woman already checked into the room. We got another room, but its key failed, so we had to return to the desk again after a ten hour travel day. When we checked in again a few days later, my husband's Ralph Lauren shirt was ruined by red stuff on the iron. The lamps and phone receiver were unplugged, and there were no places to charge a phone by the beds, desk, or lamps. It’s odd, and the location seems to be carrying the place.

The airport convenience is great, but don’t count on sleeping well. There’s no sound insulation between rooms, and we were woken at 3AM when the people next door got up, turned on the TV, or used the coffee maker.

The room was comfortable, nicely set up, and soundproof, and the hotel is right across from the Bangor airport via a covered gangway. We noticed a couple of late night problems, some USB ports didn’t work and the blackout shade was stuck, leaving a strip of light at the window. I’m sure staff could’ve sorted them out if we’d found them earlier. The restaurant is limited to pilots and airline staff unless you booked through a third party and added it, as we did. Staff gave us trouble over breakfast: one person said it was in the system and we could pick up a coupon in the morning, but another couldn’t find it. We had to dig out the small print saying “incl breakfast.” Service was the bigger problem. Three of the four people we dealt with were curt when we asked about breakfast and parking. When I asked for a luggage trolley, a man pointed vaguely down a hall, saying they didn’t really use them anymore and there might be one there. At 103 pounds, I struggled to angle the heavy trolley into the elevator while he watched. On the return, I had help. He didn’t need to take it to the car, but could at least have helped me get it into the elevator so the doors would close before the third try. We gave the hotel another chance and still had service problems. It’s convenient and otherwise good, but we’ll stay elsewhere and take a taxi next time.

We landed at 11:30 pm and this place was very convenient, attached to the airport. The staff were friendly, and while the hotel is clearly older, it’s kept up well enough and was clean.
