We loved our two-night stay for a college visit. The rooms were perfectly clean, and the staff were some of the nicest people you'll meet. The only problem was construction across the street starting very early in the morning, which had nothing to do with the inn.

The Grant Street Inn was the most memorable place I've stayed in Indiana. Its history is documented in photographs near the check-in lobby, and I loved that. I stayed one night. The room was clean and had all the essentials, town was a five-minute walk away, and they serve a solid continental breakfast from 7am to 10am. There were excellent protein choices and plenty of fruit, dairy, and carbs, plus home-baked cookies. A very pleasant stay.

I've heard the breakfast is nice, but I have to review this stay because I slept so badly. Light poured in through the windows, and covering them with blankets was hard to manage. The room felt 900 degrees, with no way to control the temperature except opening the window all the way. I was left expecting to wake up freezing and then have to adjust again. The bed wasn't very good either. I'm sure it's a nice hotel, but the sleeping conditions were awful.

We booked one night last week because of the snowstorm, but it got so bad that we asked to stay another night. They let us extend for free. The rooms were beautiful, cute, and so comfortable!

This was my third or fourth stay, and it's hands down the best place to stay downtown. It's close to Kirkwood without being right there, and parking is easy. The staff are wonderful, and the charming rooms mix an old-style look with modern touches. Some second-floor rooms have narrow stairs, though you can probably request a ground-floor room if needed. I like that it's neither a chain hotel nor an overly intrusive B&B.
