Boardwalk

The rooms were cramped, with roaches in them and in the hot tub. The stairs were in such bad shape that I fell, and the walls were so thin we could hear everything next door. The pool was too icy to swim in, and the kids’ playroom smelled strongly of fish. The mini golf was disappointing too, with clubs that seemed made for little kids. It may be cheap, but the staff were rude and unprofessional. This place was awful. Spend the money to stay elsewhere. I definitely don’t recommend it.

We arrived around noon on Friday, October 27, after booking on Monday, October 23, 2023. The property was torn apart, and a couple of subcontractors told us it had been sold to a corporation and all the rooms had been gutted. We had planned to check it out before fishing, but instead lost the day searching for somewhere else to stay. On Bolivar, as far as I know, there’s only one other hotel, and most beach house sites won’t take a same-day reservation. We got lucky and found a house for just $100 more than this awful property. I tried repeatedly to reach them about the booking by email and through the chat link in the confirmation. The phone didn’t work, and nobody replied. The previous Boardwalk owners and the new ones are both horrible. Even if the new owners weren’t responsible for what happened, they should take steps to stop people’s trips being ruined. I don’t understand the recent reviews at all. Maybe people planted by the former owners are keeping up the story that the place is still open. Google also wasn’t letting me upload the photos of the gutted property, though maybe they’ll appear later.

We had no sleep at all. The people next door blasted music, yelled and screamed all night, smoked pot, and had our walls literally vibrating. I called over and over for help and left several messages, but there was no staff on duty to deal with guests’ needs. The hot tub was full of urine, the refrigerator and toaster oven didn’t work, and there was no silverware in the room. I paid for a relaxing night with my daughters, but it wasn’t even close to a nice time. I’ve never had a stay this bad, including all the places we’ve traveled for my daughters’ select softball. The morning after, an employee wouldn’t answer my call and only texted me a thumbs-up. Nobody apologized. This was the least accommodating resort I’ve ever seen, and I can’t believe they think this is acceptable. Don’t book this slum.

The kids had a great time, with a cold waterfall pool, splash pad, mini golf, hot tub, lawn bowling, horseshoes, and plenty of BBQ pits. The rooms are roomy and affordable, the views are beautiful, and it’s only a short walk to the beach. Jonathan in management was very friendly and attentive. Bring your own linens when renting a beach house. We had a great weekend getaway and are looking forward to coming back 🙂.
