The Guesthouse Inn

The location was the one redeeming part. Nearby coffee shops and restaurants, plus easy beach access, gave me somewhere to escape this unclean, stinky, overpriced place. Calling it a “Cottage” suggests some charm, but it was more like a garage or annex shoddily converted into living space. The work looked unfinished, and the counters and shelves were uneven and mismatched. In the tiny bathroom, the shower sprayed everywhere, and there was mold in the shower and on the blinds. Upstairs smelled so strongly of mold and must that it couldn't be used. Our friends had to find other lodging, and my wife left early because of the conditions. The owner must know about the damp, since there were several “damp rid” products around the house.

The room looks cute at first, and the location is ideal, close to the beach. But it needs a serious improvement in cleanliness. The floors were dirty, and the bedding and towels smelled terribly of mildew. In my opinion, the two extra mats aren't fit for anyone to sleep on, with stains and pet hair all over them, so it only sleeps two.

Being so close to the beach was nice, but for $150 a night at winter rates, we should have stayed at the Surfsand Resort nextdoor. The “Cottage” had one large downstairs room with a bed, sofa, kitchen, and big jetted tub all together. Upstairs, a steep staircase led to a bedroom with a large space heater and a slight beach view. The slanted eaves would be awkward if you're tall. We found dirty dishes in the dishwasher and cupboards. The baseboard heater beside the downstairs bed clicked all night, and the upstairs breaker kept tripping and shutting off the power. We'd brought steaks to cook for four, but the stove was too small to use the broiler, so we had to go out. The tiny Weber bbq outside was rusty and too small, too.

The beds were so comfortable I didn't want to get up, and the linens were clean and soft. There were plenty of extra pillows, towels, blankets, and sundries. It had a Roku with Netflix, Hulu, and Prime, which kept adults and kids entertained after lunch. The ceiling fans were great for cooling off after the beach. The furniture was cozy but mismatched, and the house could use updating. It was a nice summer spot, though I bet winter would be freezing. We found sand under the ottoman and a few plastic wrappers, so the cleaning could've been better before we arrived. Some buttons on the remote and microwave didn't work. Books or board games would've been nice. For cooking, most tools and utensils were there, but no salt, pepper, seasonings, or other dry or wet basics, so bring your own. There was just enough space for our group, and the place was almost kid friendly for infants and toddlers. Child locks on the doors and drawers would help keep little hands from slamming things, haha. The location is central and quiet, with the beach half a block away. A corner store and several restaurants are within walking distance. There's a little park by the school, about a 15-minute walk. We had a very happy, successful last-minute vacation here and will be back. It's a quaint little house almost on the beach, with room for everyone. *S
