Monte Verde Inn

The rooms are a little dated, which fits an older hotel, but the staff’s care and the little details make it good value for downtown Carmel. The location is great and quiet, and they gave me early check-in. I had to rush, so the owners checked my luggage in and brought it up to my room. Breakfast was tasty, European-style, and thoughtfully laid out outside my door. It’s not the Four Seasons or Spanish Bay, but I’d definitely come back for the quaint, comfortable small-town feel at a reasonable price.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Monte Verde Inn. My petite queen courtyard room was clean and cute, just as Randy had described, and it was the right size for a solo trip. The bathroom was large and well appointed. I also had a private patio with a bistro table, reached through French doors. Randy was friendly and helpful when I called with a room question the week before, and check-in was easy. He also suggested a good route to the best sunset spot, just a few blocks away at the beach. The next morning’s breakfast basket had plenty of food and options. I liked the in-room coffee maker, which lets you brew a small pot instead of just one cup at a time.

We were able to walk almost everywhere from the inn since it’s just off the main streets, and parking is available if you drive. The room was clean, a good size for two, and had hot water. It was serviced each day with fresh towels and water bottles. We had a coffee maker, fridge, plug-in fan, and robes as well. Breakfast came to the door and was enough to get us started. Randy at the front desk had good suggestions for things to try. Noise carries easily, but things were quiet from 8pm-8am, so it didn’t bother us. I only wished there had been a microwave for leftovers.

Monte Verde Inn was very clean, and the staff were extremely friendly. Its location is great too. My stay was better than I expected, and I’d encourage anyone visiting Carmel by the Sea to stay here.
