Svendsgaard's Inn

The grassy area in front of our room was great for our two dogs, and the bed was super comfortable. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well equipped, and the location is perfect, with just a short walk to whatever you need. Great place to stay, and we'll definitely return!

It's a lovely little place in a perfect spot, with the nicest staff, a relaxed atmosphere, and everything within walking distance. I'd really recommend it, and they're doing a great job. The rooms aren't top-end and are a bit dated, but they're extremely clean, maintained, and have everything you need. As long as a room is maintained, cleaned well, and works, there's no need to update it. That's the only reason I took a star off the rooms, and it isn't a negative in my opinion.

We loved our stay and would come back in a heartbeat. The rooms and bathrooms are updated and very clean, with good in-room coffee and condiments and prettily folded towels. The pool is great, too. It's close to Carmel's downtown tourist area and restaurants, and within walking distance of the beach. The best part is all the free treats for guests: homemade cookies, hot cocoa, water bottles, tea, infused water, and coffee! The rooms are very reasonably priced. When a front desk staff member came to help us turn on the TV and brought cookies, they refused a tip, saying it was part of their job and they just wanted guests to be happy. Wonderful hotel and service!

The room was warm and smelled bad when we arrived. I asked for a different one, but they said I'd have to pay an upgrade fee. I wasn't asking for something better, just a room that was habitable. We opened the windows to cool it down and air it out, but when we returned it was still very warm and stank, like someone had sprayed a whole can of air freshener to cover another odor. Maybe the thermostat was broken, since Carmel isn't a warm city, especially in May. I couldn't sleep there and refused to pay any more, so we cut our losses and drove home that evening, since we live only two hours away. I think it was shortsighted of the hotel not to give us a different room at no extra charge. I can't remember the last time I experienced such poor customer service. There were plenty of empty rooms and vacancies around town, so I doubt they were dealing with an 8 pm rush for the 'better' rooms. Total disappointment!
