Days Inn Carthage

The beds were comfortable, and the motel seems to be undergoing updates. Still, the Friday night price felt far too high for what was offered. There’s an indoor pool, but the hot tub was out of order, and there’s no elevator to the second floor. They asked us to leave a five-star review to improve their ratings. The advertised hot breakfast was a small selection: waffles, greasy sausage, and biscuits, though I’m not sure whether gravy was available. The juice machine had orange and apple juice, but both looked and tasted off. A couple of people were waiting for biscuits while only a few sausages were out. The front desk clerk didn’t seem very attentive and made more sausage instead of biscuits. We gave up and went to McDonald’s rather than wait for food that seemed low quality and wasn’t kept properly warm. There was plenty of space for a table in our king room, but it didn’t have one. I’d look somewhere else.

I’d suggest asking for a second-floor room, since the first-floor doors open straight to the outside. Just avoid a room facing Arby's, unless you don’t mind hearing the drive-through. The room and bathroom had been remodeled beautifully, with no old furniture or dirty carpet. The bed was very comfortable, the AC worked great, and this was one of the nicest Days Inn stays I’ve had.

The worst part happened around midnight, when water from the room above started pouring into our bathtub and onto our things. It was brownish yellow, coming down in full streams. The noise and the timing meant we were moved to another room. At the desk, I was told to call the manager when they were in. The manager later said nothing could be done because we’d booked through a third party. The property has been unwilling to work with us or the third party to resolve it. Brown sewer water dripping and spraying onto our personal items is a health hazard, and they haven’t been willing to help. I’d be glad to discuss options further with management if they want to. Otherwise, I’ll keep making calls until this is handled. We stayed over the weekend. The beds were hard, the pillows tiny, and breakfast was lackluster, with no eggs despite them being advertised. I’m sharing this so others know before deciding to stay.

The breakfast options were pretty limited and could use some additions. The room and pool were clean and nice, and the place was easy to find. I liked having two entrances to the room, which made loading and unloading the vehicle convenient.
