Super 8 by Wyndham Casa Grande

Hotels were expensive while I was in town, but this one still wasn’t worth the money. The bed and bathroom were clean, though some things were clearly broken, and there was a dead cockroach or something by the wall between the bed and nightstand. Breakfast was just a granola bar and juice. The next night I drove to maricopa, paid less, and had a better experience.

Check-in was frustrating and slow because management left a housekeeper at the front desk, then put a brand new employee alone on the night shift on their third day. A bit of proper staffing and training could have prevented all that confusion. It also wasn’t the peaceful, professional holiday stay I expected. This is a Christmas I won’t forget. Room 101 left me unsettled. I don’t know what happened there, but the picture looked like a badly covered-up crime scene. There were crude patches in the canvas, and the bottom of the frame looked stained with what might have been “rust.” I barely slept, thinking I might be lying where someone died. I’d rather have seen a blank wall. Whether anything actually happened or not, it’s shocking that management thought that was acceptable for guests.

I won’t stay here again. They charged me $50 for a dirty washcloth with a little makeup on it. When I called today for proof of the wash, they said they’d email pictures, but I still haven’t received them. If they sent them now, I’d think it was a lie, since they should have sent them right when I asked. The front desk told me to contact Wyndham, and Wyndham sent me back to the hotel. Now the hotel sends me back to Wyndham and won’t answer my calls. I’ll follow up with the Better Business Bureau.

I’ve been a full-time traveler and Diamond Member across every major hotel chain for more than 12 years, so I know what to expect. This is a typical Super8, clean and safe enough. For this area, it seems like a good deal at $75 or less after taxes. The $80 hold is my biggest issue, even for DIAMOND members. I understand incidentals, but most Wyndham locations let Diamond members avoid this. That’s one reason I usually pick them over a better hotel. I’m in a different hotel every night for work, and I can’t have more than $700 potentially held in a week. A few other problems: I couldn’t see or adjust the thermostat, and the bed slides around on a table, which is annoying and could hurt your knees. I booked a handicap king and agreed to move to a non-handicapped first-floor room, but they put me in a two-queen room without asking if that was okay. I’m sharing this in case it helps someone else, and as a reminder to myself not to stay here again. I’m not looking for a reply from the business.
