Motel 6 Cedar Rapids, IA - Airport

After ten hours driving equipment across the country, I needed to get settled for the night. I'm disabled and traveling with my small service dog, who was extremely anxious in the bad weather. I'd booked this Cedar Rapids Motel 6 through the app, which I've been trying to use for all my overnight stops on this work trip. The lobby and desk were empty when I arrived. I waited, knocked on employee-only doors, called hello, and rang the front desk number over and over. My call log shows it took around ten minutes for a man to show up. I was anxious and a little upset, but he argued that he hadn't been gone long and told me I could go elsewhere. I was paying $140 for the room and asked him not to cancel it. He offered to call the police, then canceled the booking. I left and rented a room at the Econolodge next door. I've run several businesses, and I can't imagine having someone represent my company that way. I understand these places may be franchises or privately owned, but I guess that's how they do things there. I'd like to hear from an owner, though the young man's attitude made me doubt anyone cares. His name was Frédérique, or something similar.

I usually don't leave bad reviews, and I've generally had good experiences with Motel 6, but this one was far from that. We arrived about 35 minutes ago after nine hours on the road, and I'm using crutches. Getting a downstairs room was great, but the side entrance reeked of fried fish. In our room, the beds were made, but the bathroom was partly flooded and the floors clearly hadn't been swept. It made me question how clean the place was. My fiancé asked the manager to have someone clean up the bathroom. He said nobody could, but offered to move us upstairs. I can't manage stairs, so my fiancé asked for extra towels so we could clean it ourselves. The manager or worker said he couldn't give us any. We left for another hotel about 40 minutes ago and didn't get a refund. Maybe it was just a bad day, but I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're really stuck. We found a Super 8 down the street for a little more, and it was much nicer and a lot cleaner.

The staff here are awesome, really the best people you could ask for. I'm not very familiar with Cedar Rapids, but the area around this airport location didn't seem bad. The rooms were clean and pretty decent too.

The check-in staff were pleasant, but I found the motel unsafe in every way. Water was pouring from the ceiling in the room across from us, where there was black mold and standing water that looked like urine. There was also a blood-like substance on rotting wood around the hot tub. On the ground floor, the windows open all the way, so someone from the parking lot could come right in. Someone tried our door, and there was rampant drug use on the grounds, with people sleeping in cars in the lot at night. Then the overnight motel charge yelled at me and my dog because I'd forgotten our keycard. I left immediately after that and was still charged.
