After years of visiting Market Pavilion Hotel, we finally stayed for a long weekend, and the whole trip felt first class. We spent a relaxing few days and the location is hard to beat. For a city and Ravenal Bridge view, head up to the Pavilion rooftop bar. The lobby restaurant, 225, was terrific, and the lounge bar was just as good. Ask Clark for a martini or Nitrotini, or a nice glass of wine. We’ll be back!

Thesan welcomed us at the front desk and made our anniversary feel special. Later that afternoon, she even brought chocolate-covered strawberries. Market Pavilion is beautiful and comfortable, and we could walk to all our favorite places. We couldn’t be happier with our stay and will come back when we’re in town.

The room was gorgeous and clean, the restaurant was outstanding, and the steak was one of the best I’ve ever had. The service there was excellent too. Omar, the valet and bellman, was a gem: kind, helpful, and professional. I’d gladly recognize his work. But the check-in experience overshadowed those good parts, and as a local who booked a staycation, I won’t return or recommend the hotel because of what guests face at the front desk. I arrived at 3:00pm, an hour before the stated 4:00pm check-in, and asked politely whether the room might be ready. It wasn’t, which was fine. They said to come back at 4:00pm or that they’d call if it opened sooner. At 4:00pm it still wasn’t ready, so I was sent to wait on the rooftop and told they’d call. After nearly 40 minutes in the cold wind, with no call, I went back. I’d seen other guests head to their rooms while I waited. When I said politely that my check-in time had passed and the delay was becoming unacceptable, Andreina at the desk didn’t apologize or offer any courtesy. She insisted check-in starts at 4pm, citing the reservation’s “From 4pm” wording, and said the room could be ready any time after that, as if the stated time didn’t mean it should be available. My reservation clearly said 4:00pm to noon, not some undefined time window. Blaming the guest for the delay felt inappropriate and dismissive. They then offered a “ready” room only if I accepted a downgrade. I declined because I wanted the room I’d paid for, and the explanation changed from “not as nice” to “same room, just no view.” It was confusing and frustrating. I finally got into my room just before 5:00pm, nearly an hour late, with no apology, compensation, or accountability. For a hotel at this price point, that kind of check-in handling and dismissal is unacceptable.

We loved it here. It’s comfortable and classic, and the accommodations felt first class, better than any hotel in SC in my experience. My wife and I had a perfect stay, and we’ll be back regularly, for special occasions or just a getaway.

They really got the small touches right. The service was outstanding, and the staff were cheerful, helpful, and professional. The rooms were spotless and in good shape, with a nice bathroom and HVAC that worked well, though they weren’t fancy or especially large. The location is amazing, and the rooftop bar is lovely. I’m a coffee drinker, so I loved the great coffee setup by the elevator on every floor, available from 7:00 am all day. There were Danish pastries in the morning, cookies in the evening, and fresh fruit around the clock. At check-in they asked when I wanted housekeeping and turndown, then followed through. I got fresh water bottles each day, and turndown included tasty lemony shortbread cookies, with my robe and slippers neatly laid out. I’d give this place six stars!
