DoubleTree by Hilton Charlotte Airport

The location used to make this my go-to place for Charlotte meetings, and I'd been staying here for at least 10 years. I won't be back. The hotel has become run down, something is always broken, and the elevator broke too. The hot water ran out again, leaving cold showers, and the front desk staff member was rude when I reported it. There's a strong mold smell through much of the hotel, and I get sick every time I stay now, so anyone with allergies should avoid it. New hotels in the area are very nice. This one needs a full remodel and should close for it immediately.

The staff were friendly, greeted us with a warm cookie, and the breakfast bar had plenty of good food. We also appreciated the airport shuttle, and our driver was funny. The building does feel older, though: wallpaper was peeling in several spots, and the carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Our bathroom was tiny, and the showerhead was so low that I, at 5'10", was taller than it.

The room was clean, and the shuttle drivers were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The cookies are delicious too, though one front desk woman seemed annoyed when I asked for another and said no. I love DoubleTrees and I'm a Hilton Diamond member, but this one disappointed me. The elevator on one side stayed out of service for all 4 days, and there was no hot water each morning while they said a boiler needed repair. It seemed to take days. I also overheard a very rude desk clerk complain that guests don't listen at check-in, though breakfast hadn't been mentioned to me. On Tuesday morning the buffet had run out of both scrambled eggs and bacon, which was a letdown.

The restaurant employees were super kind and helpful, so they earn the two stars. I had a long wait for a shuttle that never showed, and there were roaches in the hallway. The rooms felt dated and unclean, and when it was very cold outside, the air shut off in the middle of the night. The rest of the staff weren't kind. Please do better.
