Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Charlottesville Downtown/University Area

I was worn out from long shifts and walking to work in the snow, so I needed a restful place to stay for three nights and be closer to work. Instead, nearby doors opening and closing were loud enough to wake me at night. The hot water was unreliable. On nights two and three there was barely any, even after letting it run for several minutes. Mold was visible along the shower seams. The mini fridge froze all my food, and the gym was dusty with no sanitizing wipes. I reported the water and fridge problems to the front desk and was told an engineer would come, but nobody showed up before checkout. Check-in itself was fine, but the stay was very disappointing. I usually expect more consistency and comfort from a Marriott property. Stay safe, everyone.

Clean towels should be a given at any hotel, even a cheaper one. Mine had several dirty spots, and I found an eyelash extension on it. When I took it to the front desk to ask for replacements, they didn't seem very concerned. I also had low hot water, a mini fridge that froze everything, an extremely hot gym, and a pool that looked yellow.

Our pet-friendly king suite was spotless and spacious, and the staff were among the kindest and most professional I've encountered. Breakfast was good, and there was plenty of parking. It was a nice stay overall, with a 20 minute walk to the Downtown Mall and a 15 minute drive to Carter Mountain Orchard. I'd absolutely recommend it and come back.

The walls and ceilings were paper thin. I could hear every step overhead, like the cast of Stomp had taken the room above mine. With wooden doors and ceilings, it reminded me of a hotel I hadn't encountered in years, and the whole experience was horrible. I've never had a bad stay like this at another Marriott brand. The neighborhood felt bad, and the name ‘downtown/university area’ was misleading. There was NOTHING in the area, and it didn't seem safe, especially with the street doors kept locked. The signs were poor; someone inside had to signal that I should walk around to the back to enter. There was hair on the vanity and toilet seat.
