The Landing Social House Hotel

Turning the YMCA into this place was a great historical transformation, and the pool is nice. Parking isn’t free, unfortunately. Some chairs look as old as the building, which makes people over 200# uneasy about sitting in them. Otherwise, it has a lot of potential for those who can afford it.

I haven’t stayed in the rooms, though they look nice. The restaurant food is wonderful, and I really love the pastries. Parking is limited, but the location is great and service is very good. I just joined, so there’s still a lot I haven’t tried. The special social dinner event was fun, the seating areas are cozy, and we really loved dining outside in the fall.

Avoid any Common House location, especially for a wedding. We paid $5k+ for welcome drinks for our September wedding at Common House Charlottesville. Weeks before the wedding, we’re now scrambling to find a new venue. The place shut down overnight after the landlord evicted it over unpaid rent. They’re refusing to refund anything and sending boilerplate emails about an ‘ongoing legal process,’ with no timeline. Weeks later, there’s still no timeline, refund, or accountability. The company took our hard-earned wedding money and couldn’t manage its bills, leaving us out thousands during one of the most stressful times in our lives. If they treat paying customers this way, who knows what else is going wrong behind the scenes. Avoid at all costs.

I’ve met dozens of people, myself included, who say Common House charged them fraudulently after they cancelled. I tried to resolve it with the service desk and staff, but they made excuses and blamed me, even though they admitted they’d received and confirmed the cancellation request. Keep records and be mindful. This seems clearly acceptable to management. Aside from that, the place is great.
