Wingate by Wyndham Chesapeake

The pool was heated, and the jacuzzi was amazing. The staff and owners were wonderful all around. The room was so quiet it felt like we had the entire hotel to ourselves, almost as if it were soundproof. I’ve never had a more relaxing hotel stay. The bed was so comfortable I fell asleep within 5 minutes and slept right through the night. One of my favorite hotels from here on out!

We only stayed because we’d driven many hours for a funeral and needed somewhere to sleep. We would have left otherwise. The room wasn’t ready until 4 instead of the advertised 3, and both the building and room smelled musty. The bed was comfortable and the room was roomy. Breakfast was a little better than continental, with eggs and sausage. But there was mold around the tub and on the floor beside it, the water pressure was laughable, the carpet was stained and torn, and the chair was dirty and stained. You could hear every footstep above because the ceiling didn’t block sound. There was a science project growing in the sink. The TV was small and ancient, the pool and hot tub were nasty, and the AC worked well but loudly. Do not recommend.

The staff are what made this place feel like home. They were always there, polite, professional and considerate. I was here during a difficult time in my life, and their care made things much easier to bear. When the internet was unreliable and I needed to work, Jillian lent me her phone and hotspot, a lifesaver. She was always smiling and made fresh coffee when the pot ran out. Tom Burns is a fantastic manager who made my life easier in ways I can’t describe. Vijay and Parth were wonderful to talk to, caring young guys who looked after their “auntie” when she needed it. Housekeeping knocked every morning with a smile to ask if I needed anything. I can’t fully put into words how good it felt to have my needs matter to them and to be cared for kindly. Lots of fancy hotels have fancy things, but don’t feel like home. This one does. Kudos and bravo, Wingate at 817 Greenbriar in Chesapeake! I’m putting this review up everywhere. Hope to see you all again soon. Take care. There’s an indoor pool open from 1-10pm, a gym open 5am-10pm, and 24/7 laundry you can access with your room key. The area felt safe and clean, the highway is easy to reach, and it’s walkable to the Wawa less than 1/3 mile away, good for a morning walk and coffee if you miss breakfast. The lobby is spacious and well lit, with automatic doors, a welcoming seating area, a faux fireplace and a TV that’s always on. There are tables, chairs and sofas in the dining area, where hot breakfast is served daily from 6-9am. They have scrambled eggs, sausage, bagels, bread, butter, jam, muffins, water and apple, orange and cranberry juice, plus coffee and tea around the clock. Even if you miss 9am or are too bleary-eyed, there was still something left around 9:30am to warm up and eat while watching the news. The rooms are spacious, with several mirrors, a small fridge and a microwave that works well. The shower has a good strong stream, which matters when you travel. There’s a desk and comfortable office chair, plus a desk lamp with handy USB ports. Wi-Fi was good, though I’ll come back to that. There’s a small sofa chair and ottoman for putting your feet up to watch TV, several lamps, and a low bench for bags and totes. The TV sits on a medium sized chest with drawers. The AC and heat worked reasonably well, but I had to fiddle with it to match my body’s thermostat. The king bed was fantastic, firm and very comfortable, and I slept well each day. They told me they planned to replace the bed with better, newer ones. I wish there’d been more than three pillows, but they were both firm and soft. Nothing to really complain about. I liked being able to see my parked car from the window, and there was ample parking. The hotel deserves a 5+ star rating. Everything seems set up to give guests a home away from home.

The beds were super cozy, and I felt comfortable the whole time. Water pressure could be a little stronger, but that’s just my personal preference. It was a perfect staycation for my pregame birthday weekend.
