Hugging Bear Inn and Shoppe

I’d have liked a way to lock my room when I was out. The owners should have a traditional locksmith get the vintage locks keyed and working, without replacing them with modern ones. Still, we loved our stay, so I’m giving it 5 stars. Kristen, our Innkeeper, was a great hostess, made an excellent breakfast, and was a wonderful ambassador for the area.

Bring an eye mask, since the windows aren’t fully covered. Otherwise, I enjoyed my one night at Hugging Bear Inn. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, breakfast was home cooked and delicious, and the staff were very nice. I had no issues and would definitely recommend it for an economical, pleasant stay.

We’ve visited Chester, Vermont for years, usually stopping at the Hugging Bear Shoppe on the way to hike or camp. We’ve never stayed at the Inn, but the quaint shop is always a treat, and we’ve bought lots of stuffed animals, buttons, magnets, and postcards there. The staff have always been exceedingly friendly and sweet. We were sad to hear the establishment is for sale, and the shop seems to be undergoing some renovation and clearing out. We hope it stays part of Chester.

Staying at the Hugging Bear is a lovely way to start the day. Kristen was a pleasure to be around and an incredible host. Her kindness and amazing breakfast made our day, and the good feeling lasted.
