Inn of Chicago

The location just off Michigan Ave. was pretty great, and Josephine politely moved me to another room without asking questions. I’d found a deal on kayak for $64/night, and you do get what you pay for here: the hotel is dated, needs repairs, and could be cleaner. My first room had a grocery bag over the spot where a light should have been, greasy and possibly makeup-stained pillowcases, and lots of hair in the bathtub. The staff were courteous and polite, so it was a decent stay for someone who isn’t too picky.

The building seemed well maintained, and the staff were very friendly. The rooms weren’t opulent, but they were very nice, and I was impressed by how consistently the mask-wearing policies were followed inside the hotel. Many attractions we wanted to see were within walking distance. I’d stay here again if I had the chance.

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the lobby looks very nice. Beyond that, the motel felt gross. The hallway carpet was stained and old, and the decor was worn too. Our room was tiny, the bathroom paint was peeling, and the fresh towels were sitting on a shelf inside the shower. It has real potential if the place were redone.

The room was huge and very clean, and the location is fabulous. The lobby is adorable and welcoming, and the staff are friendly. I’d put it around 3.5 stars, though that wasn’t an option. Check-in took a long time, and I have no idea what caused the delay. The bathroom was really cramped and badly needed a remodel, especially the sink and toilet, which both had issues. Everything was old, and the carpet was extremely worn. Sound carries so easily from the hallways that people passing by, including staff, woke me a few times despite being a heavy sleeper.
