There were five roaches, and the dark furniture made them hard to spot. The rooms look old, like something from the 70s, and the windows are plexiglass rather than real glass, screwed shut so they can't be opened. The parking lot is cramped and hard to navigate. The place needs a makeover. Visitors aren't allowed, supposedly to keep bad people out.

The rate and location were great, but I was staying for a week and, after three nights, asked for fresh towels. They told me the laundry lady would be there at 8 the next morning. Don't count on clean linens, so bring your own sheets and towels.

The woman at the front desk was really professional and kind, and she gave us a refund. The room, though, was trashy. The bathroom wasn't clean at all, there were dirty footprints on the floor, no toilet paper, and the wash towels were dirty. The AC and heater were broken. I was meant to stay one night, but seeing a dead roach and a few live ones was the last straw. I might have stayed if it hadn't been for the roaches. I don't recommend it.

We made this place home for a little over a month. It's not the best looking, but it was quiet, people mostly kept to themselves, and clean sheets were always available when we asked. Some guests seemed to live there and others were there day to day. The owners were very friendly and had the best rates around. We'd definitely stay again if we return to Clearwater.

For a quiet, no-frills stay, this could work. I spent 10 days at Budget Inn of Clearwater. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rate was decent. It's an older, retro building, so don't expect high-end perfection. I liked the windows on both sides for natural light, and the blackout curtains worked well when I wanted darkness. The shower needs attention: its curtain should be replaced or deep cleaned, the water pressure was very low, and hot water wasn't always available, though warm water was. There's a convenience store at the gas station across the street, and the beach is two miles away, an easy bus or bike ride if you'd rather avoid parking. They don't allow visitors, partly because there's only parking for guests and partly to prevent loud parties and illegal activity. It's pet friendly, and my guy Hollywood felt right at home. I'd stay again when I need a place in Clearwater.
