Quality Inn Clinton North

The manager went out of his way for us, bringing two packs of popcorn to our room after 9 at night when he realized he’d run out at the office. We’d asked if they had any, since some hotels keep it in the lobby. Earlier, we’d called while driving and asked for a first-floor room near the ice machine. The pleasant desk clerk gave us a discount and the room we’d requested. It’s an out-of-the-way Quality Inn that used to be a Best Western, and the room was quite adequate. I’d recommend it for the service.

I checked out a day early, but the amount I paid never came down to the $270 it should have been. The full stay was $360, and they also charged another $90, making $450. They reversed that extra $90 and tried to tell me that was the refund. I stayed there last week and waited until now in case the balance corrected itself, but it didn’t. I showed the GM the charges, settlement dates, transaction IDs, and authorization codes. I’d already checked with my bank, which confirmed the extra $90 charge and reversal and said it wasn’t still pending. He kept pointing at the receipt and “explaining” it, even though I said the receipt was right and the transactions weren’t. Then he told me to take it up with the bank.

The front desk woman was great, quick and efficient. We skipped the basic breakfast and ate elsewhere. The room was clean, and the towels, shower, TV, and in-room amenities were fine. It is dated, though, and could use some care. The mattresses are old, and outside there are weeds, peeling paint, and other cosmetic issues.

We had to leave the room door open to air it out because the musty smell was so strong it was hard to breathe. Worse, there were visible smears beside the toilet that looked like feces. That’s disgusting and unacceptable in a place guests pay to stay. Cleanliness and sanitation are basic. Seeing the bathroom wall like that made us wonder what else hadn’t been cleaned properly, and we seriously reconsidered spending the night. I would never stay here again. Do better.
