The first impression was pretty good: the room was spacious, the staff were friendly and helpful, and Jamie and her team helped us out when we needed it. The place was under renovation, though, and there were issues like a broken light and poor cleanliness. I’m especially grateful to Jamie and her staff for helping us during a difficult time. After staying a week, I’m appalled at how the owner treated us. We never got clean, unstained towels, sheets, or comforters. Some towels arrived with black stains, and the comforter and even a pillowcase had blood stains. When we asked for fresh bedding and towels, she told my son not to bring dirty towels down and warned that we’d be charged extra if we spilled anything on them, calling it property damage. The pool wasn’t open, despite the $100 nightly charge, and the toilet lid was broken. Around 1:40 a.m., the headboard came out of the wall and hit me in the head. The hotel blamed us for losing power to our room, saying we used too many outlets. I wouldn’t be surprised if they blamed us for the headboard too. The owner raises the rate when she knows people are in a tight spot and everything else is booked. Breakfast was minimal; we stayed over a week and never got fruit or anything like what other Days Inn locations offer. Poor management. I’d tell people to stay somewhere else.
I booked two rooms, and both were a mess. The second floor smelled bad, though it looked okay at first. Its air conditioner was beat up but did work, and the curtains wouldn’t quite close. An outlet by the beds was exposed, so the lamp had been moved across the room. There were no smoke detectors. Bathroom tile was broken enough that I nearly cut my foot, and there were no towels except hand towels, which I didn’t feel safe using. The plug by the sink didn’t work because its button was missing. There was a coffee pot but no coffee. In the other room, the tile shifted when I stepped on it, and the bathroom door caught in the frame so badly that my daughter got stuck. The sheets had stains and the cabinets were broken. Breakfast was a joke unless you wanted cereal. I think there were biscuits and gravy, but the gravy had dried onto the container. The pool photos are outdated: it was the smallest I’ve ever seen and there was no hot tub, just a boarded-up area where it appears in the pictures.
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $150-$300 on a better hotel. We drove ten hours for a little family vacation, checked in, and headed for the elevator. It felt rickety and uncomfortable. When we stepped out, there was an awful smell. I thought maybe someone had made a mess in their room, so we kept going. Then I opened our door and saw a comforter with burn holes, a floor coming apart, and that same smell. I didn’t touch anything except my phone, which I pulled out to book another hotel. We walked past the desk, dropped off the key, and told the woman we were checking out. She looked surprised and asked if I meant checking out. Yep. I didn’t stop to ask for a refund; I just got my family out of there. If you stay here, you may end up paying more to go somewhere else anyway. Just don’t do it.
Jaime was professional and kind, and this review isn’t about her service. The room and hotel were another matter. Our family is in town for Parents weekend, and all we wanted was a clean, comfortable place. The laundry room beside the elevator was filthy, and everything smelled of cigarette smoke despite this being a non-smoking hotel. Our room door was already open. Inside, floor tiles were missing and the A/C only blew fan air, not cool air. The online booking photos looked decent, but didn’t show the actual rooms. We left right away and asked for a refund. Jaime said she could issue one, but it would take 3-7 days. I haven’t received it yet, though I do have a receipt saying it should be refunded. The hotel should not use the Air Force Academy in its advertising. It is not affiliated with the hotel in any way, and I’ll be contacting the owner and the attorney general about our experience. The pool was out of service, and we wouldn’t have used it anyway because we might have gotten a staph infection. I regret not taking photos before we left. I also warned the man checking in after us. This is fraud; a hotel shouldn’t advertise with pictures that don’t show its actual rooms. I guess I should’ve read the reviews first. Again, Jaime was professional, and this doesn’t reflect her customer service.
We had a king suite and a regular king room, and both had plenty of space. The regular room seemed partly updated and looked very nice. The suite could use updates, especially since its carpet was dirty enough that I kept my shoes on. I put a couple of sheets over the couch and chair, and after that they were fine. The bed was comfortable, and having a fridge, sink, and coffee maker in the room was handy. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We had a nice stay that didn’t cost a fortune, and we’d come back.
