Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham SE Columbia Ft Jackson

I really liked the hotel, and the King Bedroom was very nice for an inexpensive place. We were impressed when we arrived, even though the nice lady told us they were remodeling. The tub had a brown spot that looked like a dent that had started to rust, but I understood. The microwave was another issue. Its turntable wouldn't spin, so our food didn't heat all the way through. We called the front desk at least 10 times. They gave us a new plate when I asked, but then I realized it still wasn't spinning. Basically, we didn't have a working microwave, though I was understanding about that too.

We booked three nights, but could only manage one. During the hurricane, everything else was booked, so at first we felt we had no choice but to put up with it. The elevator even had a roach riding up with us, and the hallway was dark and dreary with an unfamiliar smell. Our room was only halfway clean. We had to clean the refrigerator ourselves, and there was hair in the sink. I told the front desk, but they said housekeeping had already left and would come the next day. Really, tomorrow? We took the bedspreads off and slept on top of our blankets. The next morning my son saw a bed bug crawling on the wall, and that was the last straw. I reported it to the manager, who was very nice about it, and asked for my money back. He apologized and assured me we wouldn't be charged for that night or the next two. That wasn't true. My credit card was charged, and I'm disputing it now. I've tried to reach the manager but keep getting the runaround. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone. It gets no stars from me. DHEC really needs to shut this place down.

There isn't much that's up to date here. The room had just three lumpy pillows, and the front desk didn't have any extra ones. There was a roach by the tub when I got to the bathroom, the shower had almost no water pressure, and the worn-out hot and cold controls are so hard to tell apart. For reference, turning the dial all the way left gives you “cold.” The elevator smells terrible, so try to avoid it. The front desk staff didn't even hide their devices. They were watching something on a laptop until they noticed me. If you have nowhere else to go, hopefully the breakfast is good.

The only enjoyable part of the hotel was the pool. The rest was much worse in person than the reviews I wish I'd taken seriously, and the bad reviews aren't exaggerating. The elevator had no current safety inspection posted. When we asked, even the manager would not or could not show us one. There was no soap in the lobby bathroom, so people using it, including staff, weren't washing with soap. The rooms are falling apart: ours had a hole in the wall, exposed nails where the closet bar was missing, cracked sink, and black mold in the bathrooms.
