Sleep Inn & Suites Columbia I-65

The front desk woman was very nice. She was there when we checked in at 5 and was still working at 9 the next morning. We think she may have been the only staff member at the hotel. The room had several problems: the bathroom outlet didn’t work, there was no fridge, the ceiling lights were out, and someone had watered down the shampoo bottle. The shower was only lukewarm, and the corroded showerhead barely let water through. Breakfast was minimal and just okay, and the swimming pool was closed.

Travelers, beware. This place should be condemned. The rooms are unsanitary, and the electrical fixtures don’t seem safe. We tried to stay here on our way home about a week ago. In the first room, fixtures had come off the walls, the lights flickered and many wouldn’t turn on, the fridge was missing, and the bathroom door wouldn’t close. At the desk they apologized and moved us next door. The first thing we noticed there was a putrid smell, then my husband stepped in what looked like a pile of vomit by the door. He went into the bathroom to clean the waste off his foot, but the shower door was halfway off its tracks and the shampoo dispensers were on the shower floor. The room was dirty and the glass was yellow. We went downstairs, but no one was at the desk. We rang the bell and waited several minutes with no response, then went outside and found a woman half asleep with a cigarette. I asked whether she was the employee, and she said yes. I told her someone was waiting at the desk and that she should check it, then went back to my car. Do not stay here. Go anywhere else.

Room 309 had fewer problems than the first room, but at $139 a night I still expected basic cleanliness and upkeep. The floors were poorly cleaned, our feet turned black walking on them, the sink drained badly, and the walls were dirty and chairs stained. My husband, our two-year-old, and I stayed one night, and the whole experience was very disappointing. After we checked in, we went out briefly for food and gas. When we got back, the TV and phone didn’t work, so I had to return to the desk. They moved us from room 307 to 309. I explained that moving with a toddler would be hard and asked for a nearby room. The employee rolled her eyes and assigned 309. Before moving my family, I checked the new room. It looked acceptable at first, but the floors were filthy. Room 307 also had mold around the shower, a very dirty sink, a damaged desk, and filthy chairs. I wouldn’t recommend this property based on our stay.

The beds were comfortable, but the amenities are pretty limited. Breakfast didn’t offer much, and the fitness center is just a treadmill, an elliptical, and a recumbent bike. During some of the coldest weather of the season, the automatic door between the foyer and lobby was stuck open. If all you need is a shower and a place to sleep, it’s fine.
