Fairfield Inn & Suites Columbus

I booked the room the night before and requested an accessible room with a roll-in shower. They didn't have one available when I arrived, but they did offer a tub with a bath seat. The gentleman at the desk apologized and went to check that they had a seat for us. There was a handrail in the shower, which is a low tub, but I didn't see one by the toilet. I’ve learned to get on and off a toilet without one, but other people may need that support. There were a few issues, though this was better than some places I've stayed.

Room 211 had a comfortable bed, free parking, and great shower pressure. The desk wobbled and needs its legs tightened, and the chair doesn't adjust. The AC was moderately loud and made a strange whistling sound. Breakfast was typical, and the tables in the breakfast area didn't have the usual wobble you sometimes get at Marriott.

I've been a Mariott Silver member for years, and by the end of last year I was just a few nights short of Gold. After this and a billing problem with another Mariott brand hotel a few months ago that took months to fix, I'm not sure I want to stick with Mariott, especially Fairfield Inn. I had booked here a week ahead and had confirmation emails. After driving over 5 hours, I arrived around 10:00 p.m. and was told the hotel was overbooked, with no room for me and no other property to move me to. Nobody contacted me beforehand. When I asked why, the front desk person said, “I could blame him, but it’s been a long day,” even though I'd just spent over 5 hours driving. I called Mariott, but there were no rooms within 100 miles. I had to call other brand hotels around town and hope for a vacancy so I wouldn't sleep in my car. Luckily, the nearby La Quinta had a couple of rooms and I got one. I wasn't offered compensation or extra Mariott points, either by the hotel or the Mariott rep. With hotels so full that night, I felt lucky not to end up in my car. I'm very disappointed in the hotel's incompetence and lack of communication, and in Mariott for doing so little after I called. They could at least have given me a few complimentary nights after such a big screw-up. Situations like this risk losing loyal customers.

The staff were the best part of both of my stays. They're responsive, knowledgeable, and kind to guests. I was here in May 2025 and again in January 2026, and had an excellent experience each time. The hotel itself was clean and well maintained.
