Hampton Inn by Hilton Concord/Kannapolis

Nona handled me, a phone call, and someone buying a snack all at once, and somehow stayed calm and kind through it. She brought complimentary water and snacks to our room, checked in afterward, and made sure hot water was ready for tea when I came back to the lobby. Our room was quiet and comfortable, with secure parking right by the window. For less than some of the old, run-down motels on 301, staying at a wonderful Hampton is an easy choice. I'm sold on the comfort and security, and Nona's service was A++!

The front desk staff were friendly, polite, and genuinely helpful. The rest of the stay was a different story. The water went off around 10:30 a.m., leaving us without a shower, sink, or toilet. My wife was still covered in soap, and when I called, the manager hadn't told the front desk that work was happening or how long it would take. At least the two complimentary water bottles came in handy. There were loud barking dogs on our floor, two large stains on it, and the room trash overflowed. They clean every other day "for customer convenience," so get used to barely enough toilet paper too. I thought earlier reviews were exaggerating, but they weren't.

The location is convenient, breakfast has a good selection, and the outside has been remodeled. Inside, though, it's outdated and needs a lot of work. Our room keys stopped working, and we couldn't get in. We had packed swimsuits, but the pool was closed. The staff work hard, but ownership needs to do better. This doesn't seem to meet Hampton Inn or Hilton standards.

The beds were comfy, the rooms were large, the TV worked, and breakfast was good apart from what happened downstairs. At 7 a.m. there was a woman in the lobby and breakfast area who seemed clearly under the influence. Two and a half hours later, when my family came down to eat, she was still swaying, talking to herself, and acting strangely. My five-year-old asked why she was standing there as if asleep. She wasn't just coming in to sit somewhere soft or have breakfast. Staff saw her and looked displeased, but nobody did anything. My kids were hungry and we wanted to eat, but I watched her the whole time. It was scary, and I don't understand how she was allowed to carry on like that. There was also an empty beer bottle tucked behind the towels on the bottom shelf of the bathroom vanity. I noticed it on the first day, and it stayed there for our entire stay. As far as I could tell, they don't clean rooms here. I don't mind skipping daily linen changes and towel restocking, but not even taking out the trash was a first for me.
