Candlewood Suites Dallas - Plano W Medical Ctr

This hotel has been renovated, and I think it's wonderful that organizations like Family Gateways are here to help homeless families. It's not a scam, filthy, or scary. There are lots of professionals and security in the building, along with services to help people get stable and childhood education for their children.

The room was much bigger than I expected, with a king bed, responsive and efficient air conditioning, and a full kitchen setup: small stove, fridge, dishwasher, plus dishes and pots and pans. My girlfriend came to town, and I booked the room online for seven nights at a very good price. The odd part was that the person whose debit or credit card you use has to be there with ID to confirm it wasn't stolen. Still, it was a great experience, and I'd recommend it.

I don't usually leave reviews, but wanted to share this in case it helps someone else. I stayed last night. I won't go into the amenities, since other reviews cover those. The room had an unbearable Indian food smell, the kind hotel staff couldn't have missed. Someone may have cooked a strongly scented meal, and that's not my complaint. The problem was renting the room before it had been aired out or refreshed. I've stayed in many hotels in third world countries and never had a room with a smell this strong. I asked to move, but there wasn't another room available. It was past 10 p.m., and I was tired and just wanted to rest. I would've gladly gone elsewhere if the hotel had said it was sold out. The staff, including management and housekeeping, need a proper process for catching an obvious issue like this. The sheet also had a small but clearly visible blood stain on the white fabric. The front desk staff were courteous and nice despite the situation. I wouldn't recommend this place.

We booked two rooms for a weekend, and neither was clean. One bathroom was very dirty, and the linens in the other room hadn't been changed. They moved us, but the faucet handle in one of the replacement rooms broke off. Someone came to try to fix it around 9:30 on a Sunday night. We spoke with the manager about a refund when we left, but got nowhere. The whole hotel smelled musty, and it was in an awkward spot that was kind of hard to get to. You get what you pay for, honestly. If you want somewhere a little nicer, take your time and spend a bit more.
