Deadwood Miners Hotel

We liked having the motel doors open to the outside. It made loading and unloading easier, and taking the dogs out was simple. It's pet friendly. I have a seizure assistance dog, and my husband brought his pet dog; they put us in a room near a grassy spot for them to go potty, which was considerate. The room was cozy, comfortable, and cute. The kind woman working when we checked in Monday the 13th was incredibly sweet. I kept asking her about four different things, and she never seemed annoyed or made me feel bad.

The restaurant gets crowded because it's small, but the wait is short and the portions are generous. The menu is basic, the food is very good, and it has a hometown feel. What really stands out is the crew. The restaurant staff and cooks are incredibly friendly, even under pressure, every time we've been there. They absolutely earn the 35+% tip I leave. Highly recommend. I've never stayed at the motel, only eaten here.

We didn't stay at the hotel, only ate at the restaurant. I ordered biscuits and gravy and found a two-inch beard hair sticking out of the gravy. When I showed the waitress, all she said was, “weird.” My husband commented that, looking at the cook, we could guess where it came from. She went to the kitchen, came back, and asked if I wanted another plate. I declined. She then asked if I wanted something else, and I declined again. When my husband finished, she brought the bill and said only that she hadn't charged us for the biscuits and gravy. No apology or offer to make it right, just the “free” biscuits and gravy. Don't waste your time or money unless you like an extra surprise in your food.

Madison at the front desk was incredibly helpful when we had to cancel our room reservation. Booking.com was trying to charge a fee even though I was cancelling more than 72 hours ahead. Madison went out of her way to get the cancellation through without a fee. I haven't stayed here yet, but that kind of customer service has me planning to book here next time. The people seem amazing.
