Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center

The hotel and area were lovely, and I really enjoyed my stay. The property is beautiful, the heated pool and sauna were great, most of the staff were wonderful, and the restaurant food was excellent. We had steak tacos, Caesar salad, dessert, and drinks, all good. Chelsea at the bar deserves a mention too, she was a fantastic bartender. I’m Asian American, of Chinese descent, and I had an uncomfortable interaction with a night-shift employee named Lonise. Late one night I returned from the parking lot dressed for a night out, in a dress and heels. She stopped me as soon as I came in and questioned me aggressively and in a way that felt harassing: was I staying there, what was my room number, what was my last name, and why was I there? Other guests came in before and after me without being questioned. I was the only one stopped, and felt targeted and policed. A little later I realized I’d forgotten my room key. My friend, who was the primary guest, was still parking, so I went to the desk to ask for one. I was listed on the reservation, but they said I couldn’t get a key because I wasn’t the primary guest. I understand the policy, but after what had just happened, I felt even more singled out. I had to wait in the lobby until my friend came back. We also hadn’t received housekeeping service and needed clean towels, so about an hour later I returned to the lobby. Lonise was asleep in a chair under the back stairs. That felt unprofessional, especially after how aggressively she’d questioned me earlier. I didn’t want to wake her, so I asked another employee, Katrina, at the front desk. She seemed very bothered by my request. She was eating Taco Bell and chatting with someone who looked like a security guard. She did eventually give me towels, but her attitude was negative and unwelcoming. Everything else about the hotel was excellent, and I’m sharing this because I genuinely enjoyed my stay. I hope management or a supervisor addresses the conduct and professionalism of the night staff. I know it was late, but guests should still be treated respectfully and professionally at a hotel of this caliber. With better overnight service, this place could be outstanding.
