Hilton Garden Inn Des Moines Airport

When a snowstorm stranded my parents and me after our Thanksgiving visit to my son, MRS. MICHELLE kept us updated on our flights and made sure we were comfortable. We’d come from Texas, and her help meant a lot. Ms. Charlotte dealt professionally with other travelers facing delays, even when they were anxious. Latoya took great care of us at the restaurant, and the food and service were amazing. I’m grateful to everyone at the Hilton Garden Inn for absolutely everything. Thank you so much. The room was excellent, and I was comfortable before our early flight. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone flying out of Des Moines Airport. I’d made a mistake and booked the wrong date, only realizing it when I tried to check in the night before I meant to stay. Since it was late and no managers were there, the front desk associate couldn’t cancel that reservation, so I paid for another room for the right date. She said she’d ask the manager about it. After my trip, Chris handled things courteously and professionally and approved a refund for the mistaken booking. I really appreciated his help, and the front desk staff and manager showed great professionalism and customer service.

The staff were a real bright spot. Everyone was friendly, greeted us, and offered help, and the team represented Hilton well. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, and the attached aitalian Steakhouse is worth trying if you don’t mind the higher prices. The airport location cuts both ways. It’s only a mile or two away, but the hotel sits right by the end of a runway. When planes take off in that direction, the engines are loud. I heard departures as early as 5:15 a.m. and as late as about 10 p.m. It may be easier when another runway or direction is in use. From an even-numbered room on the second floor, the view is of the roof over the pool and meeting rooms. I found it unattractive and kept the curtains shut, even on a sunny day. If runway noise doesn’t bother you and you avoid that side of the second floor, I think this could be a five-star stay.

The attached restaurant is both convenient and delicious. We’ve stayed here a few times because getting to the airport is so easy, and each visit the rooms and hotel have been clean and nice. The staff are always great. No complaints.
