Wyndham Garden Duluth

The rooms are run down and badly need remodeling. Mine smelled strong when I walked in, the bathroom grossed me out, and the mini-fridge cabinet looked broken. They still have an old PTAC heating and air system. My first room had a broken heater and a desk light that didn't work; they moved me to another room, so I gave service four stars, and four stars for the location right by 85. The room gets one star from me only because I liked the mirror light and the TV size. This place is giving Motel 6, but the rate should be $50 a night. I know not to stay here again.

Management actually seemed to care, which is rare in my experience. The GM and front desk team were especially welcoming and made check-in easy, and the night auditor was helpful and professional. The rooms were clean and well kept, and everyone was friendly from the moment I arrived. I had a comfortable stay with excellent service and would definitely return.

I had a nonrefundable one-night reservation for Christmas, December 25, in Duluth. When my schedule changed to the 24th, I asked by email if the date could be changed. I didn't want to cancel the booking. I heard nothing for more than two days, so on the third day I wondered if my email had gone through incorrectly. I clicked the wrong thing, and the room was canceled. I then asked about the cancellation and was told there was nothing they could do because it was my fault. They replied to that inquiry quickly. I never even stayed at the hotel and lost about $110. Hotels are in the service business, and I hope they can respond to customers a little faster. Be careful.

As an Indian person, I believe the management here is racist and harasses guests, especially Black guests. I saw this firsthand while helping a person with a disability. An Indian staff member falsely accused them of smoking in the room, even though their health condition made that impossible. Now the manager is making claims about specialized detectors supposedly proving that smoking happened, apparently to avoid returning the security deposit. Hotels have smoke and fire alarms, but those shouldn't be used to threaten guests when there was no violation. The management keeps pushing the matter and, in my view, will manipulate situations to its advantage. It doesn't accommodate a person's well-being, which is a serious health and safety concern.
