Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Durango

It’s an older, well-lit hotel that felt safe, though the floors are uneven. The main problem is the HVAC. It’s centrally controlled, so you can only adjust the temperature within a limited range. The blower sounds like it’s on its last legs, and barely any air comes out. I probably wouldn’t choose this place during summer or winter extremes. There also isn’t any decent food within walking distance.

The beds were comfortable and clean, and the service worked well for a last-minute trip. The walls are thin, though, and we ran into a few room problems. The shampoo started leaking into the shower when nobody was touching it, and the phone made little noises until we unplugged it. The alarm clock kept resetting and flashing. The outlet behind my bed was almost pulled out, and the clock wasn’t fully plugged in. Room service cleaned while we were out on the first day.

The free breakfast is mostly sugary, sweet foods, so after realizing that, we bought savory things for the following mornings and kept them in the fridge to microwave first thing. That’s just personal preference, and I can’t complain too much since breakfast was free. The price was good, and the room was surprisingly large and very clean. The king mattress seemed old, with both sides sloping toward the middle, but it didn’t really bother us. We had a pretty good stay.

The room was dark and badly outdated, and it got too hot with no airflow. The window opened, but there was no screen. The chair was dirty, and the pillows were really uncomfortable. Breakfast had no healthy options. For $170.00 a night, this room just wasn't worth it.
