We had a fantastic breakfast, and Terric served everyone with kindness, efficiency, and humor. Our first-floor room in the main inn, the Hugh Williamson Suite, was very quiet and comfortable, even though it’s at the corner of the house with streets on two sides. I picked it because it has a walk in shower, as I hate tubs. We really enjoyed our stay.

The cottage grounds were beautiful, and we enjoyed exploring. Our made to order breakfast the next morning was outstanding, and every staff member we met was so friendly. We spent one night there with our dog in one of the cottage rooms. The other room wasn’t booked, so we had the cottage to ourselves. It was a huge space, with beautiful furniture, a big soaking tub, and a huge bathroom. There’s a shared fridge and a fenced backyard, but the fence wasn’t tall, so I wasn’t comfortable letting our dog out off leash. A small dog would be fine. It was quiet, clean, and felt extremely safe. The dog fee is $100, which is worth keeping in mind, though I understand the buildings are historic.

The food was excellent from start to finish, and I especially loved the Shrimp and Barratta. My Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and white asparagus was delicious to the last bite. Each course was very good, with first-rate preparation and presentation. We went to The Table, connected to Inner Banks Inn, for an early Friday 13 Valentine's Day dinner. They were serving a five-course special, and the restaurant sits tucked behind the Inn, with decor that suits the old homes. We arrived at 6p and were greeted warmly by smiling faces. The staff were personable and attentive, knew the menu well, and easily handled a dietary request. We sat in a small but comfortable dining room. The courses began with a Valentine's Grazing Board of meats, cheese, and various fruits, followed by Shrimp and Barratta, then a Ceasars Salad. I upgraded to the Filet Mignon for the fourth course. Dessert was a Valentine's sampler with three tasty items, though it wasn’t on the menu and I’ve lost my notes about it. Hats off to Chef Amanda and the whole team. Susan, the owner, welcomed every guest and created a very hospitable setting. Candance helped us with our coats and made sure I didn’t leave behind the flower I’d requested for my guest. We enjoyed our first visit very much.

Breakfast was fantastic, especially the poached eggs, and Jennifer gave me very helpful suggestions for lunch, dinner, and things to do around town. I spent two and a half days at the Inner Banks Inn and loved it so much that I’ll be back in a week. It may be my new home away from home. The rooms I saw were gorgeous, and the beds so comfortable I didn’t want to get up. I may even have slept through breakfast one morning. They also have a handicap-accessible room with ramps and a Tesla charger, which are handy touches. It’s a peaceful place to unplug for a couple of days. Walk toward town and there are plenty of quaint little shops. For big trees, fresh air, and a quiet reset, this is a lovely getaway.

Everything about our choice worked out well. My fiancée and I stayed this weekend, and the room was gorgeous, clean, and cozy. The staff were extremely friendly, and everything in town is a short walk away. We’d definitely stay here again.
