Econo Lodge

The desk man seemed nice enough, though he was short with me. I heard him coughing as soon as I came through the first outside door, and I’ve been extremely sick since I lay down that night. It’s been three days, and nothing is helping the symptoms. The whole hotel felt dirty, everywhere I looked. I’d been on the road so long and was afraid to get back behind the wheel, or I wouldn’t have stayed at all. Being this sick has been hellish. I hope the desk man is feeling better, since it seems I caught it from him.

After three weeks on the road and stays at plenty of hotels, this Econo Lodge exceeded my expectations. We paid 40% less than at the previous two places, which cost over $120 a night and offered very little, yet got much better service and amenities here. The hotel and our room were clean, though there were a couple of carpet spots, as you find in any hotel. Breakfast had cinnamon rolls, bread, cereal, waffles, juice, milk, and coffee. I was really pleased with the experience and will stop here again on our next cross-country trip. Thanks for the great stay!

At least we didn’t see any bugs. Everything else was dirty: the tub had hair in it, the floors, mirrors, and furniture were dirty, and there was no replacement roll after the last of the toilet tissue. The tissue holder had no facial tissues, either. Worst of all, the towel left on the tub was filthy and full of holes.

The breakfast area was filthy, and even the coffee pot was coated in grime. The property looked as if it had flooded, with visible mold in the carpets and stains from bedbugs on the mattresses. This Econo Lodge was completely unacceptable, especially as a serious health concern that should be looked into by the local health department. I don’t usually expect much from budget lodging, but people deserve a warning. They offer no refunds or cancellations, which feels like a trap.
