El Paso Inn

I’d happily stay here again. The staff were accommodating, friendly, and helpful, and housekeeping was professional too. When I accidentally locked myself out, the owner gave me a temporary key card. He also pointed me toward some good local restaurants, and when I needed an iron and ironing board for a few items, they brought them promptly. My room was clean and affordable, with hardwood floors and a king bed. I had a non-smoking room, though I think they may offer smoking rooms too. The hotel is within five minutes of Fort Bliss and the airport. 10/10. After such great service, it’s hard to understand the negative reviews. I’m almost in love with this place.

We paid about half what the major hotels charged for one night. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the fridge and microwave both worked well. But there were ants in the bathroom, and the bathmat still showed the previous guest’s footprints, which made us doubt the cleanliness of the other linens. The lot’s floodlights may discourage theft, but they kept the room bright as midday all night.

The room was a disappointment for the price, and I definitely wouldn’t return. We could only speak to the front desk through a small window, and the woman took a long time to find our reservation without even smiling. I already felt unwelcome before seeing the room. My supposed non-smoking room smelled awful. The AC cooled it well but was so loud that sleeping was uncomfortable. The bed was hard and dirty, the small pillows didn’t fit the king bed we’d requested and were stained, and the towels felt stiff and smelled bad even though they looked clean. The microwave and fridge were the only comfortable things about the stay.

For anyone watching their budget, this is a good place to consider in El Paso. I found a Google Maps listing for $35 a night, and by the time I left the next day the rate had dropped to $31 plus tax. The front desk honored it after I showed the online offer on my phone. The room was clean, neat, and fresh-smelling, with wood flooring, enough room for a couple, a king bed, fridge, microwave, flat-screen TV, and other amenities. It’s downtown by I-10, close to everything, and restaurants are walkable. I’m touring the southern US states and have been through Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas, including Houston. This was the best deal I’ve found on these trips. There are a few things the room didn’t have: a chair at the desk, shampoo in the shower, or an iron and ironing board. But at that price, and when you’re mostly using the room to sleep, I can live with that. These are small businesses trying to compete with big chains and barely making a profit. I was very pleased with the service.
