Comfort Inn Fairfield (Essex County) Area

The rooms were new, clean, and well maintained, which made our stay more enjoyable. We also had a smooth, quick check-in, and the front desk staff made us feel welcome right away. The service was outstanding. We had a great experience at Red Roof inn FairField and would recommend it to others.

After an eight-hour drive with our dog, we were told at check-in that we couldn't leave her alone in the room and that the hotel would call animal control if she made noise. I'd called the day before booking to ask whether the hotel was pet-friendly. They said yes and gave no further details, so I made the reservation. I don't consider that truly pet-friendly, and the receptionist didn't seem prepared for hotel work. I paid for the first day only, then spent my other five days at a hotel that really was pet-friendly. I wouldn't recommend this place, especially to people traveling with pets.

The ceiling had water damage, the room smelled musty, and there were stains on the wall and mattress. We asked for another room, but it had the same problems. The guy at the desk said, “all of the rooms will be like this, its an old building”. My partner and I checked out immediately. A few days later the hotel called and held my refund until I gave them a good review. Don't trust the positive reviews here. Do not come here.

The only grassy spot for walking the dogs was by the dumpster, and it was full of trash. I understand the rooms allow pets, but that outside area is a hazard. Inside, the room smelled disgusting, like a bathroom for zoo animals. There were urinal deodorizers in a few corners, so they must know about the smell. I also found outlets without covers, which is extremely unsafe for dogs. We needed a hotel for two days with our dogs, but I definitely wouldn't recommend this place. The carpets need updating too. It smells terrible, and I hope we don't get sick from it.
