Red River Inn and Suites Fargo

The smells and lack of cleanliness were dealbreakers for us. The first room had used tissue and wrappers on both sides of the bed, plus an old bathroom mop smell. We were moved to a cleaner room, but it had a strong musty cologne odor. I've had the window open for hours while writing this, and the smell still hasn't improved. We contacted Expedia, who said a refund depended on the hotel authorizing it. The desk staff called the manager, but she wouldn't approve it then and there, saying she'd contact Expedia "on Monday," two days later, which was our planned checkout date. We were told we might get a refund if we gave up the stay, but the manager's refusal to resolve it at the time left us unsure we'd be reimbursed. Poor service all around. Looking at other reviews, it seems we're not the only ones who won't return because of the musty, offensive smells. Don't waste your money here. The small savings aren't worth it.

Tanner really helped us out when my son got sick at his swim meet. I'd booked a queen room, then needed another bed, but Expedia wouldn't let me change it online and put me on hold when I called. I was about to book a second room when Tanner switched ours to two beds so we could get in quickly. My son started throwing up as soon as we entered. I truly appreciate Tanner helping when he didn't have to. The morning had a simple breakfast, and the beds were clean.

I paid $266 for three nights through their partner site, but at check-in the staff rudely said the room wasn't paid for. After an hour and a half with the partner site's customer service getting it sorted out, the hotel still refused to rent me the room. I was left out in the freezing cold all night, with the money gone for nothing. Management was horrible, and the customer service was a joke. I really don't recommend this place.

The people here are the reason I keep choosing Fargo Inn. They make us feel like family, from the welcoming staff to the always nice housekeepers, and they're warm in a way I don't usually find at hotels. The beds are comfortable, breakfast is always good, and my pets are treated well too. For the price and hospitality, there's little to complain about, and when something small does go wrong, they make up for it. I don't stay anywhere else in Fargo unless they're fully booked. I haven't been to the car in front, but have heard only good things and that the pizza is good. When I went in for change because the front desk had run short of quarters, everyone there seemed to be having a good time. I've never had a bad experience elsewhere, but this staff's genuine warmth is what keeps me coming back.
