Highland Lake Inn & Resort

The hot buffet breakfast was excellent, and the front desk has plenty of snacks, beer, and wine. The restaurant was closed for dinner when I arrived in the early evening. The location is a handy starting point for Brevard, local waterfalls, Asheville, and other spots around WNC. I hope to come back for a non-work trip and stay in one of the houses or cottages so I can enjoy the lake. I stayed in the lodge for work after it appeared on my workplace’s business travel app. I’ve been traveling to WNC for work for more than 10 years and had never heard of this hidden gem. Check-in was easy even though I arrived after dark, and I walked the grounds for some exercise. The great room or den has a gas fireplace, cozy furniture, board games, and a TV. It would work well for a corporate group, several families, or friends who want to hang out on-site without driving elsewhere. If you like a quaint historic resort over a cookie-cutter corporate hotel, this is a good pick. It had plenty of character without feeling old or dated. Everything was clean and organized, smelled good, and there were no odors in the room or public areas. The shower was hot and worked well, the furnishings weren’t worn out, and the bed was super comfy.

Joe and Gabby were so sweet at the front desk, and we had a lovely stay. I booked the mountain air suite for my boyfriend’s birthday, and it felt really romantic. The whirl pool tub, bathrobes, and comfy bed were all nice touches. We ate at the seasons on site, and I’d definitely stay here again.

Our family has been coming to Highland Inn for a Christmas gathering for several years, and it works really well for a big group of all ages. We stay in the lodge, where the adults can use the living area and the kids have a lower space to play. The huge breakfast each morning is another thing we enjoy. A great place for a family vacation.

We’re so glad we found this beautiful property. It’s a lovely place to relax and focus, with lots of space to explore and kind, helpful staff. The internet in the rooms can be a bit spotty, but it reconnects easily.
