Super 8 by Wyndham Florence

We hadn’t planned to stop, but bad weather forced me, my girlfriend, and our 4-year-old daughter to find a reasonably priced room on the way to West Virginia. In room 302, the smell of cigarettes and chemicals hit us as soon as we opened the door. I also realized the door wouldn’t lock. We were tired and stayed anyway. Around 9:30 or 10, we went to bed, and we were soon getting bitten by what I can only assume were bed bugs. An hour or two later the doorknob jiggled, as if someone was trying to get in or maybe a homeless person was testing it. We were worried, then fell asleep again, only to wake to a loud knock. Whoever it was had run off by the time I looked out. The staff were very nice, but the motel was dirty, disgusting, and felt unsafe, especially for women and children. Worst motel I’ve ever stayed in. The place needs to be condemned.

There wasn’t any breakfast, and the room smelled of smoke. The bathroom was dirty, the blankets all had burn holes, and the rooms clearly hadn’t been cleaned. I wouldn’t recommend it. Sleeping in your car would be better.

The people at the desk were super nice, but my room had mold in the HVAC unit and crusty spots on sheets that looked unwashed. A piece of plastic covered a hole in the wall, leaving electrical wiring exposed, and it was about to come off. I made a complaint and hope they address what I need.

The room looked okay when I first walked in, but I woke from a nap covered in huge bed bug bites, swollen to about twice their size. I was disgusted, changed clothes, left mine behind, and got out of there. The refund was the only good part. Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever been in.
