Homewood Suites By Hilton Decatur-Forsyth

We had an updated suite while the hotel was still being renovated. It was very clean, had good amenities, and was fairly priced for the area. The location was excellent, close to shopping and restaurants, and the staff were friendly. Parking spaces were limited, which was a minor issue. We were pleased with our stay and can recommend it.

We had a good experience here. The staff were very polite, and the free breakfast had a good range of options. For the price, the suite was a nice size and came with a kitchen refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and microwave. Very affordable.

The beds were very comfortable, and having a kitchen in the room was handy, especially for a longer stay. The fire pit area outside is easily the best part of the property, a nice place to unwind in the evening. But the hotel is showing its age. The rooms are outdated, and visible stains on the couch and carpet took away from the comfort. I was disappointed that Homewood no longer offers its bold coffee, which used to be a favorite of mine, and I don't understand why they stopped. Breakfast was just okay. The much-needed remodel is underway, so the place is ready for a refresh. A decent stay, but it needs that update.

I’ve stayed at this location many times without problems and return whenever I visit. I check in and out without issues, and always try to leave the room in good shape out of respect for housekeeping. My most recent visit was December 12/18-12/20, when I was in town for a loved one’s funeral. There were several issues already in the room when I arrived: trash from previous guests, a broken air conditioner cover, an unclean shower, and a broken curtain rod on the windowsill. Since I’d never had an issue here before, I assumed housekeeping had missed things. I bought trash bags and cleaning supplies and carried on without complaint. Checkout was at 12:00 PM. Before then, a housekeeper entered by mistake, looked startled, and immediately apologized. I checked out, got my deposit back, and left with no indication of a problem. Around 2:00 PM, I got an alert that the hotel had tried to charge my card $200. I called promptly to ask why. The receptionist became defensive and aggressive, accusing me of smoking in the room. That was completely false: I don't smoke and had booked a non-smoking room. When I denied it, she changed the claim to say the room was left “filthy,” which also wasn't true. I told her I had time-stamped video of the room at checkout. She went quiet, wouldn't acknowledge it, and hung up. When I asked for her name and a manager, she refused and said, “The charges didn't go through anyway. Merry Christmas!” in a condescending tone before hanging up. I called back, and she transferred me to a voicemail she said was the manager. I called again for the corporate number, but she stayed irate and hung up again. Her hostility forced me to ask a family member to go to the hotel in person to get staff names and corporate contact details. The receptionist then claimed housekeeping needed two hours to clean the room and that butter had been smeared on the walls. That contradicts my time-stamped video, which the staff member refused to look at despite my offer to show it. I later learned the receptionist was Terri and the manager was Penny. This caused unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. The accusations seemed fabricated after checkout. As a loyal repeat guest, I found the conduct unacceptable, disrespectful, and deeply disappointing. I will contact corporate.
