TownePlace Suites Fort Worth University Area/Medical Center

The friendly, helpful staff and decent location were highlights. There are plenty of food choices and some shopping just a couple minutes away by car, and the fitness center isn't bad for a TownePlace. I booked this work trip at the last minute, so the choices nearby were slim. The stay wasn't bad, but it felt like a 3 to 3.5-star hotel, as you'd expect. There were some hair and razor clippings in the bathroom when I arrived. The half-wall shower wasn't chic, since water pooled outside no matter how I used it. There wasn't a trash bin near the elevators either. Maybe that's picky, but small conveniences like that were missing.

Our room's AC didn't work. We told the staff, who handed us a fan and wished us luck. When we raised it again the next day and asked about a refund, they said we had never complained. After a lot of back and forth, they finally offered partial compensation in points. We complained to corporate, and they had the nerve to say we weren't using the AC controls correctly. Lies on top of lies. I'd never stay at this property again, and I wouldn't give it any stars if I could.

It's right next to a very loud rail yard, and staying here was a waste of my Platinum Elite benefits. I used points for the stay and would've rather paid for a different hotel. The place is a dump, and I'm surprised Marriott accredits it. Service during normal hours was poor, the TV was broken, and they questioned me about changing rooms. Then I saw random, mismatched hair dryers like you'd find at a Motel 6.

I was here for a week before anyone gave me dish soap, and there was never a frying pan to cook with, only a pot for boiling. If you're booking a room to use the kitchen, bring your own cookware and dish soap, and maybe roach poison. Check the sheets before getting into bed too. I usually sleep on one side, but after four days I lifted the sheet on the other and found blood underneath. There were dead cockroaches under the garbage can beneath the sink. If I hadn't already bought a bunch of food, I would've checked out.
