Sugar Hill Inn

The room was cozy, warm, very clean, and had a lovely rustic feel. Breakfast was phenomenal, and we really enjoyed both the tavern and the dining area. My wife and I are already planning to return, maybe to stay in a cottage or come in another season. We wanted mountain views, crisp air, and a quiet break from our everyday life in Connecticut, and that was the reason we chose Sugar Hill Inn for our first night away together in over ten years. The holiday decorations, lit fireplaces, and Christmas music made the clean, beautiful common areas feel relaxing as soon as we arrived. Staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. A snowstorm had recently hit the area, and while the town was working on power lines, we lost electricity in our room for a few hours. The storm also affected the water pressure one evening, and the bathtub jets weren't working. When we told the owner, he apologized and was accommodating. As a business owner myself, I understand you can't fix a problem you don't know about. Things happen, and we hadn't asked for a discount or refund, but he kindly offered us a gift certificate, which we appreciated. The owner was genuinely friendly and clearly wanted to give reasonable guests a great experience. We'd highly recommend a peaceful weekend here if you're hoping to unplug.

The Dream Cottage itself was fine, but for what we paid, the basic essentials listed in the paperwork should have been taken care of. It said someone would come daily to replenish linens, towels, and the coffee station, but that never happened. We were there for a relaxing trip with my wife, yet our only contact was the employee at check-in. The breakfast window, 8-9 am, was very odd, and although there was a lounge, there was no staff to run it. It looked like we were the only guests on the property for our whole stay, which felt very different. Probably won’t return.

We had the library fireplace going while we played cards, then got to soak in the in-room jacuzzi beside our own fireplace and enjoy the robes. The property was clean and nice, and the hosts were attentive without hovering. They showed us to our cozy, cute room. We stayed here for part of our honeymoon in a quiet January just after the holidays, so it felt like we had nearly the whole place to ourselves. Breakfast was excellent and included, and the couple running it were very nice. Littleton is close by for dining. We’d definitely consider staying again when we’re in the White Mountains.

A couple of days after our visit, we realized a pair of shoes was missing and contacted Sugar Hill Inn to ask if we'd left them there. They quickly confirmed they'd found them and started shipping them back to us. The whole process was convenient and professional, and that courtesy really impressed us. Our October stay had been great from the start. Booking was easy, and when we arrived, one of the friendly owners showed us around the main building, brought fresh-baked cookies, walked us to our Forest View Cottage, and showed us how everything worked. The room was spacious and elegant, with handsome decor. Breakfast the next morning was delicious, though choosing was tough since everything on the menu looked fantastic. The dining area was comfortable and stately, with several other guests there. It was just what you'd expect from a super-nice B&B!
