Courtyard Dayton South/Mall

The room was clean and nice, and the staff were really friendly. But the power went out while I was working on an important paper with a deadline, and nobody came by to explain what was going on. Customer service was no help, as usual. I’d been unsure about staying here, but chose it so I could get work done and spend time with my family. Now I have to start the paper over, then drive tomorrow after working through the night. I’m not happy at all.

Update: they did pay the bill, though it took a year. Before that, they hired us to remove a tree from a client's car after a windstorm. I rearranged my clients to fit the job in that day, and my crew worked overtime in bad weather to help them out. Jennifer Stamper, the manager, signed for the work and seemed glad we'd taken care of it. Then they didn't pay. Jennifer kept giving me the runaround, and eventually said another company had bought them, so we were out of luck. I won't stay at a Marriott again.

Everything else was good, and the staff were professional, courteous, and engaging. They really seem to care about guests. The only thing I’d complain about is the pool, which wasn’t heated and felt cold.

The pool was nice, though I did spot rust on the ceiling in that area. Our room was clean, except when we opened the pullout for my son and found a lot of garbage in it. I also noticed a room with a sign saying “ozone machine in progress, do not enter.” It made me wonder if that had anything to do with the bug reviews I’d read, and if so, I appreciate that they’re trying to address it. The building looks quite old, with what seems like a recent surface remodel: new carpet, furniture, and appliances. Our room was pretty small but fine for one night. The bathroom was too cramped to change in, so we had to get creative around family showers and helping my youngest turn on the hot water. Breakfast wasn’t included, and the menu prices were high, so we skipped it. I’m not sure we’d pick this hotel again. We’d probably want a continental breakfast, more confidence about cleanliness given the pullout and the ozone machine, and a bit more room to move around. If other places were booked, though, I’d consider staying again. Nothing wonderful, nothing awful.
