This was my first stay here, after seeing some good reviews. I was out of state and booked a five-day vacation and business trip, then added one more day so my girlfriend and I could do more house hunting. The first night or two went fine. Then we both started getting itchy. We’d checked the bed and room before lying down, as you do, but kept finding more and more bed bugs. We told staff two or three times. They said they’d let housekeeping know, but it didn’t seem like anything was done. The pool was full of hair, a lot of it, and paint was peeling off across the pool and floating in the water. The fitness machines wouldn’t turn on, and the vending machines didn’t work either. The internet was extremely slow and failed about half the time. Housekeepers sometimes walked into the room while we were sleeping without knocking. Luckily we were dressed. The building didn’t make a great first impression. It looks like they only had just enough money to get by, if that makes sense. The front desk looked like an old-time kids’ lemonade stand, which was funny to see, but it needs work. The staff were nice, though the place still feels like a work in progress. The room itself was large. I had the Deluxe King Studio Suite, and I really can’t complain about the space. We got hot water, fresh towels every other day, and the housekeeper usually came daily to empty the trash, sometimes every other day. This hotel needs improvements to cleanliness, its appearance, pool upkeep, stocked and working vending machines, housekeeping professionalism, and internet service. Honestly, the front desk needs an upgrade too, though I’m not trying to be harsh. In the end, this was my first and last stay in the area. I won’t come back unless they make changes or invest in the building.

I wasn’t actually a guest in a room, but I’d absolutely recommend this location, especially if you find yourself in a crisis. Lauren and Skylan were incredibly helpful after my vehicle was totaled in a deadly accident on the bridge into WV while I was on my way to see family in NC. I was left stranded nine hours from home and eight hours from my nearest family farther south. They kept my belongings while I went next door to eat and let me stay in the lobby until my ride could come up from Virginia Beach. They also talked with me and helped calm my nerves. They were the sweetest, and deserve gold medals.

The woman who checked me in was nice, and the room looked clean. But the place is old and still smelled of smoke despite no-smoking signs everywhere. There were cigarette burns on the sink counter. My AC didn’t work, though fortunately the weather wasn’t very hot yet. The TV was acting up too: when I changed the channel, I’d get sound but no picture. The walls are thin. Once I opened my door because I thought a baby was crying in the hall, but it was actually a couple of doors down across the hall.

The staff were very nice and the location is prime, but the building is in bad shape and needs investment. For the quality of the rooms and property, it costs far too much in my opinion. The walls look like they haven’t been painted in 20 years. Every AC unit I passed smelled moldy, especially the one in our room. The carpet was damp and gross, there was water damage in the bathroom, and the pipes screeched the whole time I showered. The mattresses were hard and uncomfortable too. A family member booked the room. Looking back, I think camping would have been more comfortable.

It’s a decent budget hotel: easy check-in, clean, with friendly and attentive staff and a pretty good breakfast selection. It’s not winning any beauty awards. I took off a star because there was no hand soap in the room, and it had a very faint smoke smell despite being non-smoking. I did arrive late and didn’t call the front desk to ask if they could bring soap. I’d stay again.
