Motel 6 Georgetown, SC - Marina

We were moved through three rooms to check for cleanliness, and all we found were roaches, mold, dirty sheets, and dirty towels. The place is absolutely filthy and disgusting. We never stayed in the dirty room, but I've been trying to get a refund for nearly a month and have contacted them multiple times. The manager never seems to be available, no matter when I call, and never calls back even when staff take my name and number. One employee said it would be nearly impossible to reach the manager because they come in whenever they please. If you need a manager to resolve a problem, don't expect much luck.

The room needs a serious deep clean. In the ADA room, the beds are four feet high, so how are people with disabilities supposed to get up there? I stayed here when it was the Baymont and when it first became Motel 6, and it used to be alright. It's gone completely downhill.

The location is good for visiting Georgetown, SC. That's the only good thing I can say about this place. It was the worst place I've ever stayed, and I think the health and safety issues are serious enough that it should be shut down or torn down. They claim to have accessible rooms, but the bed is far too high, there's barely room for a wheelchair, and the shower isn't fully accessible. Staff greeted me in dirty clothes, and they walked around the property barefoot. Room 115, the first one I was assigned, had huge stains on the sheets, bed cover, pillow, and duvet, as if someone had made a poor attempt to cover up a crime. Room 116 had dark stains on the pillow that showed through two pillowcases, like a nosebleed had happened there. My cousin said she was killing toaches in her room. In room 101, the smoke detector had no battery and there was a hole in the tub covered with a mat. I hope nobody falls through it. The microwaves were rusty inside, with long patches of rust, and the soap bars broke apart after one use. This used to be the Baymount Hotel and is now run by Motel 6, but it hasn't been remodeled. The mattresses seem to be more than 10 years old, even with mattress covers. Breakfast was a canister of coffee, one kind of stale mini muffin, two cereals, and what may have been 2% milk. It's a dump. Spend a few dollars more and go somewhere else.

The heating and AC unit was extremely loud, though at least it worked. The curtains left a gap at the bottom, so I had to improvise a cover to keep people from looking in. The place felt nasty overall, and even the young woman at the desk in the morning looked like she'd just rolled out of bed in her sleeping T-shirt, without washing her face or combing her hair. It was cheap, but not worth what I paid. I'll read reviews carefully next time. My room situation was a mess. I had booked a room with a micro fridge, but there wasn't one when I arrived. I was moved to another room, and later the desk worker told me there had been a fridge, just not where it was supposed to be. In the second room, there was no toilet paper or any cups, no washcloth, and no top sheet on the bed. I only noticed the missing sheet around 11 p.m. There was a blanket, but I seriously doubt it had been washed between guests, so I folded the bedspread over myself instead. There was an ironing board but no iron. The ice buckets were there, but the ice machine was hard to find, if there was one at all. Another guest was looking for ice when I returned from dinner. I didn't see any vending machines either. Around 10 p.m. someone pounded on a nearby room door and shouted something I couldn't make out. It stopped quickly and didn't happen again. Earlier, there was a police car in the parking lot and a sketchy-looking man sitting at its edge. I don't know what was going on, but he was removed from the property fairly quickly. Bad things can happen anywhere, though that should have been a warning to me.
