Courtyard Grand Rapids Downtown

We found it really convenient for a concert. The Skywalk to Van Andel Arena is a short, easy trip, and the freeway access and downtown restaurants and bars are all close by. The room was clean and comfortable, and customer service was superb. I'll stay here again next time I'm in Grand Rapids.

The staff were friendly, and the hotel's Bistro restaurant was decent. But the furniture in the rooms was damaged and stained, and there was a sewage smell. It's also a condo apartment hotel, so it can get noisy on the seventh floor near the residents. The rooms have no microwave and only a tiny fridge, which was disappointing. A club across the street also makes weekends noisy at night.

We booked the Courtyard Mariot to see the Griffin's play, knowing it was next to the arena. We hadn't realized that the Courtyard and the J.W Mariot connect to it by a sky walk, so we could get there without going outside. The arena atmosphere and game were great, and everything is right by the hotel, including bars and nightlife across the street. The rooms were amazing, very clean, and well maintained. It's kid friendly too, and I'd highly recommend it. You can't beat the prices.

The walls are thin enough that we could hear conversations from both neighboring rooms, and the rooms were small with an off smell. At 9, the cleaning staff walked in on us even though checkout wasn't until 11. That was disturbing and unprofessional. The staff weren't accommodating either. I'd look somewhere else if you're staying downtown.
