Sleep Inn & Suites Allendale

The room was comfortable and mostly quiet, and breakfast had a good range of choices. Service was good too. Some of the fixtures could use updating.

The biggest problem was the card charges. I gave them a credit card to hold the two rooms, then paid with my debit card. Between the two cards, there were eight pending charges totaling over $1,000. The manager said I’d have to wait to see whether they cleared, and couldn’t explain why they’d appeared. Once they did clear, I was charged more than my bill, plus an extra charge for one of the rooms. The hotel told me on the phone it was an error and would take 3-5 business days to fix. As for the rooms, they were fine for one night, though the beds weren’t very comfortable and the paint on the walls needs work.

The stay was great apart from the front counter employee on day two, who was loud and very rude. My room was already paid for, but it took two hours of phone calls and a complaint to a supervisor to sort things out. I kept the room and was given a complimentary night because of how she treated me.

The location was fantastic, and the price seemed fair. My room was reasonably clean, though a little dated. Staff were attentive at first, but that didn’t last through the stay. Breakfast was decent, though I’d have liked more hot choices, even just instant eggs. The pool was average, and I suspect there may have been algae growing on the light.
