Best Western Plus Greenwood/Indy South Inn

The room was good, the hotel was clean, and the location was fine. Breakfast was the letdown. At check-in they said it ran from 6-10, so we planned to eat early before a wrestling meet. I didn't double-check the hours and assumed that was right, but breakfast didn't start until 7, putting us behind. After waiting an hour, we found the portions were tiny and the food wasn't replenished promptly. The food tasted good, but they wouldn't refill it, so the kids ate and the adults had cereal. Very disappointing.

For anyone traveling with a dog, this location is ideal. My room was on the first floor by a side exit, with a storage closet on the other side instead of another guest room. There was plenty of grass outside for my dog to sniff around. Sidewalks aren't plentiful, but the area is nice enough to walk along the streets by the small businesses. The rooms and shared spaces were clean and nice, the rate was decent, and breakfast had a good variety. Without a pet, it's still a fine hotel. Best Westerns have become our go-to, and I'd definitely recommend this one to pet owners.

I paid $127, which hardly feels like a budget rate, and the pool was freezing. That's the only reason we chose this hotel, and my kids wouldn't get in. The carbon monoxide detector started chirping, but the front desk worker said there was no maintenance person available to change its battery until morning. The beds made a lot of noise when we moved, and paint was peeling all over the hotel.

The water from the gym fountain came out brown, and it was the only drinking fountain, so bring water from Walmart or a gas station. I also heard people through the door in the morning, and our room was right beside the elevator, which made it hard to sleep. For the price, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was well kept, though not perfect, and our room was clean. It felt musty and humid, but that may have been the weather. Breakfast wasn't much to get excited about, but the lobby coffee was fantastic. It was the first trip I didn't buy Starbucks every day. They turn the machine off after breakfast, but will switch it back on if you ask. I didn't feel especially welcome at the front desk and sometimes felt like I was bothering them, though they were helpful and did what they could to make our stay good. There was plenty of walkable late-night food nearby.
